Project: Social movement of Bedouin women On the occasion of the global week against violence

This project has been accomplished by ADWAR association in partnership with the Catholic Relief Services CRS funded by the American Agency for international development USAID in partnership with local councils in the Bedouin communities in the Southeast of Hebron.

 

Project Period Time

Six months started from 1/7/2012 ended in 31/12/2013

 

Project Objectives

1.       To develop the knowledge and skills of 25 young women and men from the targeted Bedouin communities for the establishment of the “central Coalition of young men and women to advocate Bedouin women issues” which capable to influence and bring about social movement to achieve the demands of the women as well as influencing decision makers in the Ministry of Local Government

2.      Building pressure to influence decision-makers from the Ministry of Local Government and ministries of different jurisdictions in order to activate the role of local councils to provide an essential community services demanded by women.

3.      Sensitize the community about the importance of the responsible active participation of women in the community in order to change the common stereotypes about women’s roles.

 

 Project Results

1.       A training program was carried out, entitled ” the social movement ” On the occasion of the global week against violence. 30 training hours over 5 days to 25 trainees, about the needs of gender as well as the tools used to make pressure and advocacy mechanisms along with community participation.

2.      Two visits to exchange experiences in Bethlehem governorate in cooperation with civil institutions and women’s groups in the presence of a group of qualified leaderships and managerial models in order to benefit from their experience.

3.      Two meetings were held with focus groups aimed to identify the needs of Bedouin women from the local councils the average time of the meetings was 3 Hours implemented in the targeted Bedouin settlements areas

4.      2000 copies of the brochure has been prepared and printed, was designed and distributed to all the activities of the project. The brochure aimed to the define the project as well as its activities and goals also sensitizing decision makers and the community in general about the importance of women’s participation in addition to women’s demands and their needs of the community services provided by the local councils.

5.      Two public meetings were carried out with the decision makers in the Ministry of Local Government at a rate of 3 hours for each meeting

6.      A day of advocacy in front of the Ministry of Local Government in Ramallah for 3 Hours.

7.       Media Campaign by 4 episodes on television as well as 4 radio episodes were carried out

8.      5 seminars were carried out at a rate of 3 hours for each workshop, entitled  “Enhancing the Participation of Bedouin women in community life,”

9.      Crowded festival in a central location in the south east of Yatta.

10.   Final conference was carried out entitled “The importance of the role of the Bedouin women in community participation as well as elimination of all forms of discrimination against women.

  

Target group

Total targeted group: (946) 715- women and 231 men

 

While the indirect targeted groups in the project were as follows:-

80% of viewership from the Palestinian society have been sensitized about the social issue that Bedouin women suffer from in the targeted Bedouin communities and the role of decision makers in ministries of various jurisdictions to address the issue through local councils.

10000.757 proportions of listeners of the Palestinian society have been sensitized about the social issue that Bedouin women suffer from in the targeted Bedouin communities and the role of decision-makers in the ministries of different jurisdictions to address the issue through local councils.
