Day: Tuesday Date: 16 \ 7 \ 2019 Baladna Radio – Bethlehem
Bethlehem – Baladna – The Ministry of Transport and Communications has pledged to solve the problem of the lack of public transportation in Jib Altheb village east of Bethlehem in the next few days by starting a special decision to develop a transport line to the area and merge it with the transport line of the neighboring town of Zaatara.
This pledge was made by Public Traffic Controller and Spokesman of the Ministry of transportation Communications, Mr. Mohammed Hamdan, during a special discussion session on radio of Baladna in partnership with ADWAR, in the framework of accountability of the decision makers in the ministry about their role in improving the reality of women in Bedouin communities within the project (towards women who make change in priority communities and make a difference in their lives and the lives of others).
For her part,ADWAR General Director Dr.Sahar Alkawasmeh began to review the idea of the project by stressing the importance of pressure through the women’s committees in the direction of achieving the just demands of the Bedouin and marginalized communities, adding that the association responded to the demands of the residents there by networking with decision-makers in order to fulfill their requirements Especially in the various sectors, namely the transport sector.
She also added that Women in the marginalized areas need the necessary tools to change their reality and participate in public life to pressure their demands. Women are the most vulnerable to stress and lack of basic services such as health, education and transportation and the fulfillment of demands.
Fadia Alwahsh said “The transportation is a very urgent need for the people of the village to spend their daily needs, but this reality clashes with the lack of a transport line, forcing residents to walk three kilometers to the nearest line of transportation or using special requests, Up to 50 NIS per request to reach the center of Bethlehem.
Al-Wahsh ensured that the women’s committee worked on a plan in this regard in cooperation with ADWAR but this plan did not see the light so far despite the approval of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, which increases the suffering of the population of 180 people.
She pointed out that the village’s lack of transportation means depriving many groups of access to natural services such as health, education and others.
She added that access to the village through the public transport line often depends on the mood of some drivers who refuse to reach the village, despite the development of a line to the village and incorporated in the line of the town of Zaatara nearby.
For his part, spokesman for the ministry Mohammed Hamdan said that the ministry responded from the first moment to the request ADWAR but the recent government change caused some delay in making a final decision to develop this line and the adoption of a special price for the area, “Jib AlDeeb,” stressing that the Minister of Transport and Communications Asem Salem Is very interested in improving the reality of transportation in marginalized areas.
Hamdan said that the price for the passengers of Jib Altheb was 5.5 shekels on the Bethlehem-Zaatara-Jib Altheb line and that this includes all the vehicles operating the line.
Hamdan called on the villagers to inform the traffic controller in Bethlehem of any violations by drivers in case they refused to deliver the passengers to Jib Altheb. He also called for the adoption of a mechanism of communication with the residents and drivers to facilitate this.
It is worth mentioning that the project ADWAR has brought about a number of positive changes in various areas of services in many marginalized areas in the West Bank..
