ADWAR Association in partnership with the Coalition for Integrity and Accountability “Aman,” concluded the initiative “Women are defenders and fighters against economic corruption that undermines democracy and the foundations of a just and effective economy,” which aimed to empower women and protect them as a goal, means, and tool in combating corruption, which deepens inequality among women. And men in economic life.
The initiative included several activities, including training programs for grassroots institutions in the Hebron Governorate, through which women, young women and grassroots associations were able to increase their capabilities regarding corruption in discriminatory economic laws, promoting gender inequality in economic life, and adopting environmental and internal policies and procedures that adhere to integrity, transparency, accountability, and the fight against corruption.
In addition to awareness-raising workshops targeting women and young women with economic activities, individual projects, and those working in the private and public fields, they aimed to educate young women and men about economic rights related to inequality in the application of economic laws, policies, and procedures that have promoted corruption and its negative impact on the reality and status of women in economic life.
And an in-depth dialogue session in which women owners of small and micro enterprises and women working in informal work participated, during which the demands and needs of women were documented in a demands paper related to the problems that women suffer from in the Hebron Governorate.
Then, during a meeting between women and representatives of the national forces and factions in Hebron and grassroots institutions, the most important reasons that obstruct the democratic process and prevent the holding of elections were discussed, in addition to the repercussions of the Palestinian situation, which is witnessing internal division, which results in the disruption of the legislative authority and the absence of accountability. And oversight and thus the absence of a system of integrity and transparency. As a result of the meeting ADWAR Association issued a statement demanding the necessity of pressure to end the state of internal division to ensure that general elections are held with complete integrity and transparency.
As a clear impact of the initiative, grassroots institutions were able to develop the capabilities of their boards of directors and their crews on how to ensure the dissemination of the principles of good governance, integrity and transparency in civil participation by disseminating the concept of corruption, gender and gender relations in social integration, so that they become possessors of knowledge and skills and practice them in their workplaces and with the target groups, which It will help associations empower their internal environment in order to enhance integrity and transparency, fight corruption, and protect less fortunate women affected by corruption.
In addition, the initiative formed a pressing force in conveying a message in the public sphere that women are a great force in fighting economic corruption, and at all levels, from the level of decision-makers and the grassroots level of Palestinian society, in order to change the procedures, policies and economic programs that support the participation of women and young women in economic life and reaching Gender justice and fighting corruption.
