Roles for social change Association (ADWAR) launches “Pioneers to Reduce the Women Honor Killing’s Phenomenon “

The project funding by the U.S Consulate in East Jerusalem, The project aims at enhancing young women participation in the community and breaking their silence and fear barriers, by means of mentoring them to become leaders and to work on changing the traditional culture towards respecting and adhering to women's right to live in particular and women rights in general.

Sahar Alkawasmeh ADWAR Association Director mentioned that this project is the third one that focuses on women's basic right to live. The importance of the project is that it sheds more light on the worrying escalation in the phenomenon of women murder in the Palestinian society. The project comes in response to the needs of the Palestinian people to have such activities to educate the community about the pressing importance to reduce the phenomenon of killing women under the so-called “honor killing” pretext.

Alkawasmeh confirmed that the project includes many activities, the first of which is the training program targeting young women to be pioneers of community action and reduce the phenomenon of killing women; also the project will include performances and songs to increase awareness on women's right to live as a human right. The project will implement activities in cooperation with Palestinian universities and women's organizations in Hebron.
