Hebron Women Charitable Association HWCA in partnership with Roles for Social Change Association ADWAR implemented a workshop entitled “Awareness of young men and women about personal status law” in the framework of ( A’alashan halbalad) initiative, within “Enhancing women participation in civic society organizations” project implemented by HWCA in partnership with Catholic Relief Services CRS and funded by the American Agency for International Development USAID, on Thursday, 20 of Feb 2014 in ADWAR’s hall.
In this initiative men and women are implementing several activities and workshop, to build an important background of knowledge for women in terms of Personal Status Law. That is to raise necessary legal and human rights awareness for women, and work to give them practical skills which enriches their knowledge towards discarding violence culture and stabilization of respect culture.
This initiative is one of three pioneering initiatives by volunteers in this project, which includes its activities gathering a number of women with legal specialists to discuss personal status law and increase awareness of their legal rights during the two hours workshop.
According to that says Qamar Abu Asab, projects coordinator at HWCA:” Volunteers are working to enhance the status of women and highlight legal gaps in personal status law to improve the status of Palestinian women. She also clarified that the group is working on instilling legal principles which protects women, according to the need of their awareness in neglected areas, in which a lot of women rights violation happens because of their ignorance and pressing them towards giving up”.
In the same content, said Sahar AlKawasmeh ADWAR’s general director:” we work through workshops to join our voices to the national committee for amendment of personal status law. This raised the new law draft to amend few items by the president. In which comply with Palestinian women needs. She added that women in Hebron are absent from participating in public life and isolated in family sphere, we work to increase their awareness of their rights and encourage them to work and participate in political and economical life.
