Concluding the training program Entitled Empowering women who has been through the divorce experience

Under the auspices of Qalqilya Governor General Rafi’ Rawagbeh, ADWAR Association and Gender Unit in the governorate of Qalqilya, as ADWAR Association has organized a ceremony of finishing a course entitled: Empowering women who has been through the divorce experience. Through a ceremony held at the governorate building, with the participation of Dr. Yousuf Abu Maria, the chairman of the board of directors of ADWAR Association, and the general director of ADWAR Mrs Sahar Alkawasmeh.

The governor, in his speech, evaluated the role of ADWAR Association in raising social awareness for women, and recognition of their rights, he also confirmed that President Abu Mazen’s directions insist the equality for women, and giving them their rights, through issuing decrees for this subject. He also praised the importance of the Palestinian woman and their sacrifices, as well as their militant and national role that they have been acting through all stages of national struggle. Also, he demanded the enhancing women, justify them and giving them all their rights.

Dr. Abu Maria, in his turn, thanked the governor for his supporting to the project, and the best forms of the society that played an important role in the society. He insisted that Adwar’s main object was, and still, to raise women’s status and to change the common culture of ignoring women who faced the experience of divorcement.

Doa’ Barham, in her speech about graduates, insisted that women are going ahead till they obtain all their rights, including giving  them  guardianship and palimony, in addition to giving them the chance to get a job, and support the divorced women with social security, and solve the problem of waiving rights for those women who want to divorce.

It is worth mentioning that this project aims at enhancing the status of women who have been through divorce experience, and enhance their participation in public life, that is through meetings with decision makers to present a rights document that is related to eliminate all types of discrimination against divorced women.

This project is in partnership with MEPI program, and funded American Consulate.
