ADWAR implemented its first activities within the project entitled (Protecting Women Legal Rights)

Roles for Social Change Association-ADWAR implemented its first activities within the project entitled (Protecting Women Legal Rights) in partnership with the Enhanced Palestinian Justice Programme and in cooperation with Family Court, four higher education institutes in the southern West Bank, and three Youth Centers in Hebron city. In the presence of Beit Ula Women Club president, Hanan Farashat, the Judge of the Southern Family Court, Asmahan Al-Wihaidy, the legal consultant, Muhammad Ajlouny, the general director of ADWAR, Sahar Alkawasmeh, and a large number of participants from Beit Ula women and girls.
These educational seminars aim to introduce women legal rights that protect women from gender-based violence, enhance equality between sexes, support marginalized women in breaking the barriers to reach Family Courts, and increase awareness to local communities in Hebron City about Family Courts service and procedures.
The general director of ADWAR, Sahar Alkawasmeh started the educational seminar with introducing ADWAR roles in developing Palestinian women and girls’ abilities, enhancing their participation in general life fields and reducing violence against women and girls. Alkawasmeh also pointed out the importance of this project as it plays a role in increasing the awareness of women about the role of Family Courts and women legal rights in marriage, divorce, dowry, alimony, and inheritance cases. In addition to increasing their awareness and confidence in Family Court services and procedures, and the necessity of staying away from justice systems of tribes.
Moreover, the president of Beit Ula Women Club, Hanan Farashat welcomed the honored guests and thanked ADWAR for its projects that women need, and pointed out the importance of ADWAR working in increasing women awareness in legal rights and Family Courts roles.
Besides, the Judge of Southern Family Court, Asmahan Al-Wihaidy explained that Family Courts are part of the Palestinian Judicial System by the Palestinian basic law. She also added personal status that is applied in Palestine cover several laws; such as the provisions of the betrothal, marriage, dowry, alimony, divorce, custody, filiation, inheritance and breastfeeding. As well, she introduces the roles of Family Supreme Court, Family Appeals Court, Family Trail Courts, cases that these courts cover and services they provide to women.
The legal consultant of the project, Muhammad Ajlouny explained to the women Family Court procedures in marriage, divorce, alimony, inheritance, and dowry. He also added the importance of guidance and reform department and its role in decreasing social conflicts, marital disputes, and divorce rates. The thing that makes Palestine has the lowest divorce rates in comparison to neighbor countries, and the Arabic region in general.
