Roles for Social Change Association-ADWAR in cooperation with Sharek Center conducted the ninth theatrical show “Houriyya” within the project “Protecting Women’s Legal Rights”

Roles for Social Change Association-ADWAR in cooperation with Sharek Center conducted the ninth theatrical show “Houriyya” within the project “Protecting Women’s Legal Rights” that aims to achieve its social program goals like protecting Palestinian women and young women’s rights from all violence forms by working on lifting all kinds of discrimination practiced against them, as well as raising their awareness regarding their rights and empowering them individually and collectively.
This activity is conducted in cooperation with family courts, women clubs, Palestinian universities and youth centers in Hebron. The project coordinator started the meeting by introducing the project as well as its importance and goals. Then the media director, Obaida Abu-Husein welcomed the audience and expressed his gratitude for working in cooperation with ADWAR Association. Then, he introduced the Palestinian storyteller, Fida’ Ataya, who performed a theatrical show entitled “Houriyya” in which she shed the light on women’s legal rights regarding attending family courts. This show also dealt with problems and violations that women face in Palestinian and Arab society including deprivation of inheritance, arbitrary divorce, early marriage, and many other problems.
At the end of the show, there was an open of a debate in which the family court judge Dr. Abdullah Asaily answered many questions regarding women’s legal rights, family courts and measures followed by them. In her turn, Dr. Sahar Yousef AlKawasmeh, ADWAR Association General Director, shed the light on the importance of such performance since legal awareness is a way of protecting Palestinian families that experience social, economic, and political challenges.
