ADWAR started the project Supporting Women Protection Committee for gender equality in humanitarian response

Roles for Social Change Association (ADWAR) started the project Supporting Women Protection Committee for gender equality in humanitarian response. In partnership with UN Women and funded by the Spanish Agency for International development, in cooperation with Ministry Of Local Government, Local Councils, Ministry Of Women Affairs, Ma’an Media Network, UNFPA, UNICEF, and UN Women.
This project targets 16 areas that are located in Masafer Yatta; these are: Khirbat Be’ir Alaad, Khirbat Jimba, Khirbat ALGhawanmeh, Khirbat AlMarkiz, Khirbat AlHalawa, Khirbat ALFkhait, and Khirbat ALTban. Besides Khirbat ALMajaz, Khirbat Maghaeir AlAbeed, Khirbat Safa ALFoqa, Khirbat Safa AlTahta, Khirbat AlTuba, Khirbat Saddet ALTha’leh, Khirbat Sha’ab AlButtam, and Kirbat Qawawes.
The project aims to develop women and girls’ abilities in advocating for women human rights’ violations regarding advocacy on gender issues in humanitarian action and organize them as Women Protection Committee. As well as strengthening women protection committee members’ participation in humanitarian needs process and reduce the gab in the provided response through advocacy and accountable for decision Makers in order to support disadvantaged women access to humanitarian action as direct and equal beneficiaries.
Moreover, a number of active and influencing women and men in AlMassafer participated in the ceremony, including the general director of ADWAR, Sahar ALkawasmeh, the head of AlMasafer local council, Mr. Nidal Abu Arram, and the active member of the local council, Majeda Ribe’ie.
Abu Eram had pointed out the importance of women’s role in AL Masafer; he had assured that the different and activated roles these women play guarantee their steadfastness. He also assured the motivating and activated role that ADWAR plays. In addition, Majeda Alrabe’ie stated the importance of this project to develop women’s abilities and increasing their self-esteems to be able to play the leading role in society. Besides, Sahar AlKawasmeh pointed out the importance of this project comes from the reality that it works on organizing a securing committee that works on providing humanitarian aids to women in the marginalized areas; which suffer from gender-based and occupation violence, and deprived from basic services. As well, this committee plays a role in partnership with influencing men in assuring the continuity of providing services there. The training program included the following aspects: gender roles and needs, women social, economic and political rights, gender based violence, and women’s rights advocacy tools.
