“My Right” program, an episode deals with woman’s right in inheritance

Roles for Social Change Association-ADWAR in partnership with Marah Radio launched the tenth episode of “My Right” program that’s presented by Samar Addibs within the project “Protecting Women’s Legal Rights” under its social program strategies which aims to help women break the barrier of having an access to family courts; as well as protecting their legal rights and reducing gender-based violence.
Today’s episode, Monday 16\7\2018, shed the light on “inheritance” and the share that the wife and daughter take from estate. It also aimed to enrich women’s legal knowledge regarding inheritance, the wife’s share from her husband’s estate, and the cases in which the women has the right to inherit specifying her share in each case. It also shed the light on the daughter’s share of the estate, and the preventives of inheritance for both men and women.
The episode’s guest, the court’s judge Abdullah Asili gave a general inheritance definition, he clarified that inheritance is the estate that a person or a group of people pass for others who follow. And legally it means what a person leaves for inheritors including money and rights.
Dr. Asili also clarified through this episode the elements of inheritance and what comes with these elements including inheritor, testator, and estate. He clarified the financial rights that the testator leaves after he\she dies and how it is splitted among inheritors after knowing why they earn it.
Through his talk, Asili talked about the cases where inheritance is banned, including inheritance of foundling because of the inability to proof parentage, murderer of testator, and apostasy (since it is forbidden for a Muslim to inherit from a pagan, and vice versa). He also talked about the importance of inheritance in Islam.
At the end of the episode, Asili gave recommendations to distribute awareness on how to get inheritance and asserted on taking the needed proceedings to get it. He also asserted on raising the awareness of local neglected communities in Hebron about the services and procedures of the family courts ,and providing these information for the community in general.
