Roles for Social Change Association-ADWAR signed a project agreement entitled (Increasing Women’s Political Participation Through Effective local election in Marginalized communities)

Roles for Social Change Association-ADWAR signed a project agreement entitled (Increasing Women’s Political Participation Through Effective local election in Marginalized communities), in partnership with the German Cooperation (GIZ) and funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
The project is implemented in partnership with the Local Bedouin councils, Protection committees, Ministry of Local Government, Ministry of Women’s Affairs, General Union of Palestinian Women, Central Election Commission and Ma’an Network. The project is targeting Bedouin women in the Bedouin Communities of South Hebron and East Jerusalem which located in (C) areas including (Yatta, AlRamadin, and east Jerusalem).
The project aims to improve the capacities of marginalized Bedouin women about the importance of political participation in local elections through nomination and voting, as well as access to decision-making positions in the local Bedouin councils, and raise awareness among the Palestinian community in general and the local Bedouin community in particular regarding changing the negative stereotyped images and the importance of their engagement in Bedouin local councils in order to raise basic services level.
The project contains many activities including a training program and a capacity building that contributes to develop the capacities of Bedouin women in decision-making positions in the Bedouin communities in South Hebron and East Jerusalem. Furthermore, it includes awareness workshops for influential men and men members in the Local Councils, in addition to several meetings to exchange experiences with women leaders and a set of radio episodes, spot animation and billboards.
ADWAR Head of Board of Directors Mrs. Nadia Katana said that the project will work on increasing and activating the role of women in local councils in order to improve services related to gender, hoping for decision makers to respond to their voices and needs.
As ADWAR’s general director Sahar Yousef AlKawasmeh also added that this project will be a qualitative addition, because it will expand the public Bedouin women base through reaching them in East Jerusalem and in AlRamadin South of Hebron.
