Roles for Social Change Association- ADWAR signed a new project agreement entitled “Bedouin women protection committee to activate 1325 resolution in Area C” in partnership with United Nations entity for Gender equality and women’s empowerment, funded by the Spanish agency for cooperation for development, and in cooperation with Woman Affairs Ministry, The Association of Woman’s Committee for social work, Colonization and Wall resistance Committee, the Independent Commotion for Human Rights, Bedouin local councils, and Media agencies.
With the presence of ADWAR’s general director Mrs. Sahar Yousef Alkawasmeh, Sabeen Machel the general director of UN Women, Hillka Jokinen and Samar AlShareef.
The project aims to establish a protection committee for Bedouin women in order to develop their capacity in the mechanisms of monitoring and documentation for violence practiced by occupation. Also, to protect their rights as a basic human right based on 1325 resolution . in addition to enabling women from reaching services and claim their rights as well as enhancing Bedouin women accountability campaigns besides advocating Palestinian decision makers and international organizations to practice their responsibilities in relation to protecting women rights and improve services reality.
The project target Bedouin women from south east Yatta / Hebron Governorate in C areas including Bedouin gatherings ( Umm Alkhair and Khashm AlDaraj). The project contains several activities including capacity building program and monitoring and documentation field visits, and a primary report to monitor the human rights violations based on UN resolution 1325 for security and peace. It also includes seminars with human rights organizations in order to prepare the primary violations report and present it to different media stations.
AlKawasmeh indicated that the project considered to be the first stage which targets Bedouin women from Um Alkhair, about monitoring and documentation tools to protect their rights based in the UN resolution 1325. ADWAR association look forward to reach all women in C areas in order to document violations in which women are subjected to, and protect their rights and their families along with Bedouin village communities rights in general.
As ADWAR’s chairwoman Mrs.Nadia Kittaneh confirmed the project’s importance according to enabling Bedouin women from knowledge , skills and tools of documentation for political violation and lack of services. It is also considered an initial experience for women because they suffer the most.
