ADWAR in cooperation with Oroba Network implemented the last radio episode among the project (Increasing Women’s Political Participation through Effective local election in Marginalized community) in partnership with the German Cooperation (GIZ) and funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
The project is implemented in partnership with the Local Bedouin councils, Protection committees, Ministry of Local Government, Ministry of Women’s Affairs, and Ma’an Network.
The Gender forum member and specialist in elections Mr.Talib Awad participated in the episode and clarified the role of the gender forum , in which includes several feminist organizations which worked on the theme of elections, in addition to the existence of independent people whom supporting women’s participation in local governance field especially elections. Awad also illustrated that his work within the forum is voluntary in coordination with several feminist organizations that work jointly to enhance women’s existence in local bodies.
Awad also referred to the contribution of the forum regarding several achievements through the past years and developing women’s participation in elections, in which they continue targeting women and focusing on men also to make it through this point.
As for her part, the social activist and director of Nahdet Bent AlReef Society Mrs.Fatma Abu Katteh referred to the challenges and obstacles that women faces in political fields according to common inherited cultural context that neglects women through depriving her from practicing several roles.Another issue which she discussed is the stereotyped divisions such as (Ahmad is writing, Fatima is washing the dishes); this is a simple social concept which makes men in front roles and women in back roles. Abu Katteh also added that the lack of support by political parties to women’s awareness regarding her active role in political field had weakened women roles.
