Roles for Social Change Association-ADWAR, in cooperation with Radio Marah, conducted the second episode of the program “My Rights” within the project “Protecting the legal rights of women” and that was within its social program strategies that aims to protect women’s legal rights and reduce violence based on Gender.
The second episode of the program entitled “My right” was specified to shed light on “rights of women in dowry”. It hosted the judge Dr. Abdullah Asaily who talked about women’s dowry in general and women’s rights related to dowry and its dependencies, and the importance of spreading awareness about these rights and laws related to them and how to take all legal procedures by family courts to protect women’s rights regarding dowry. It hosted also one of the youth activists Samah Attiyah who talked about her own experience regarding this subject.
Asaily discussed the rights of women regarding dowry and their status whether they are “single, engaged, married, divorced or widowed,” pointing to courts role in protecting these rights from loss.
The activist “Samah Attiyah” talked about her experience of separation after a year of engagement due to a lack of understanding.
Attiyah called on all women to not accepting the interference of tribes in such cases because they will be ended friendly, leading to a loss of their rights. She called on them too to go directly to family and legal courts so that they can get their rights in full.
The family court judge, Dr. Abdullah Asaily talked extensively on how to take legal measures and rights appeal by family courts.
In turn, the social counselor Jihan Al Fakhouri participated by telephone and talked about how to deal with these issues pointing importance of the dowry, which she considered as a deterrent protects women’s rights.
Fakhouri confirmed the importance of enhancing women’s access to family courts and services provided by them.
