Public Meeting within the framework of the project Women Advocate against the concept of divorced and their isolation from civic life

Under the auspices of Qalqilya governor Mr.Rafei’ Rawajba, ADWAR Association and Gender Unit in the governor office organized a public meeting within the framework of the project: ”Women Advocate against the concept of divorced and their isolation from civic life”

In which Governor’s deputy the colonel Husam Abu Hamda , ADWAR’s general director Mrs.Sahar AlKawasmeh, and Gender Unit Director Ms.Hanan Ghashash participated in the meeting, along with representatives from related institutions and women activists from Qalqilya.

Within the meeting the deputy welcomed ADWAR Association as he valued Palestinian women role in resistance and struggle to obtain their rights. As he stressed that the governorate gave an importance to women within its strategy and programs in order to honor women. Noting that such meetings highlights Palestinian women’s problems and acknowledges her with her rights and increases their self-esteem stressing that women are the base of Palestinian families and society.

As Mrs Sahar AlKawasmeh thanked the governor to host activities that are concerned with women issues, as she invited the attendees to stand by women. Also, she gave a brief on ADWAR Association and the project, pointing that ”divorced” concept has negative psychological, social, and cultural side effects on society as women are the most who are harmed and embarrassed by this concept within daily life.

The project aims at enhancing the value of women who have been through divorce experience, and enhance their participation in public life as well as meeting with decision makers in order to present a bill of rights concerned with cancelling all forms of discrimination against women who have been through divorce experience. The project comes in partnership with the Middle East Partnership Initiative MEPI and funded by the US consulate. The meeting included a sketch that expresses society’s stereotyped mage towards women who have been through divorce experience.
