ADWAR in partnership with the Independent Commission for Human Rights held a seminar in honor of the international week for the elimination of violence against Women within the project (protection Commission for Bedouin women to activate the UN resolution 1325 in C areas), in partnership The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, funded by the Spanish Cooperation Agency for International Development and in collaboration with the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, the Association of women committees for social work, colonization & wall resistance commission, The Independent Commission for Human Rights, and Bedouin local councils, and Ma’an T.V.
This seminar targeted different Palestinian and international institutions and NGOs in C area, with the presence of many representatives of these institutions. In addition to women’s organizations and the Ministry of Women Affairs.
This seminar aim to show the first draft of the primary documentation report of the violations in Um Alkhair-Southeast of Yatta, Hebron. Where attendees gave their submissions, feedback, and recommendations. The report highlighted the violations subjected on women by occupation. Also, the main role of Bedouin women protection Committee within documenting violations, protecting women’s rights in C areas, provide peace and security based on 1325 resolution, in addition to analysis to gender needs .
The seminar opening was by ADWAR’s head of board of directors Mrs.Nadia Kittana whom talked about the report’s importance and reason of preparation. Then the Director of the Independent Commission for Human Rights Mr.Farid al-Atrash , stressed on the importance of this partnership and integration of efforts to monitor, document, and follow-up report results with international institutions. Because of it forms an advocacy tool at international level to support the Palestinian’s rights.
ADWAR’s general director Mrs.Sahar ALkawasmeh added that this report is the first qualitative report which highlights the violations subjected on Bedouin women in addition to the lack of services. Furthermore, the project’s trainer Lawyer Mohammad Alajlouni said that the stages of implementing the protection committees’ work and results have been reached , as it documented all kinds of violations that have been linked with the Palestinian law system.
At the end of the seminar attendees stressed on the important of delivering the report’s findings to international forums and to Palestinian Government to activate it’s roles in protecting Bedouin women’s rights, and the Bedouin society in general.
