Launching the Men’s Alliance in Jericho

A group of men demanded enhancing opportunities for women and young women political participation in local government, as they called for the application of equality principles and values based on rights and duties for both genders without discrimination, in all aspects of life, and the amendment of the women’s quota in the election law and raising it to %30 in accordance with the decision of the Central Council of the PLO This came during the implementation of ADWAR Association, the launching ceremony of the Men’s Alliance, Saturday 1/21/2023, with large number presence of men and women in the West Bank and in Gaza Strip regions via Zoom. This ceremony comes within the project “We men are your allies in influencing and defending Women’s rights.” Men also has requested from decision makers to include a provision in the electoral law indicating that women occupy leadership positions in the local authority, in addition to encouraging and obligating local councils to create an encouraging and supportive environment for women’s participation in the activities of the local government. A position paper was also created that addressed each of the challenges which limit the political participation of women in local government and demands to enhance opportunities for political participation of women and young women in local government, as it was endorsed by members Men’s Alliance to be handed over to decision makers in the Ministry of Local Government. This project is implemented in partnership with the Gender Forum in Local Government and with direct support from the Canadian Feminist Fund.
