Dialogue and Accountability Meeting with the Ministry of Labor and Federation of Palestinian Trade Unions

ADWAR Association held an accountability meeting within the “Workers Between Aggression and Negligence” initiative, in partnership with the Coalition for Accountability and Integrity “AMAN”, in presence of Mr. Muhammad Al-Shalalda, General Director of Hebron Labor Directorates, and Mrs. Jihan Jarrar, Director of Tarqumiya Labor Office, Mr. Ashraf Al-Qawasmeh, representative of the Inspection Department in the Directorate, and Mr. Sameh Al-Jaabari, President of the General Federation of Palestinian Trade Unions, In addition to media pioneers, and social activists, along with number of workers, women, and young women from unemployed families from Hebron and Bethlehem .
The meeting aimed to stimulate discussion about the effects of the current conditions on workers within the Green Line and the role of decision-makers in providing protection for them, in addition to presenting a Fact Sheet to shows, in numbers and statistics, the reality of workers in Palestine, in terms of unemployment rates and the repercussions of aggression against workers, women, the family and society.
Al-Shalalda listened to important issues from workers, women, and media pioneers, from several aspects related to health insurance, alternative entrepreneurial projects, and coordination and networking with other organizations in order to help them.
For his part, the representative of the union, Mr. Sameh Al-Jaabari, presented the alternative solutions they provided to help workers, such as opening dialogue mechanisms with the Monetary Authority and banks to solve the problems of loans and bounced checks.
In thier turn, the workers expressed their suffering and the impact on their lives and the economic and social lives of their families, as a result of the increasing amount of pressures that multiplied due to the war.
Media Pioneers worked on the dialogue with decision-makers about the necessity of working to provide an alternative emergency plan that contributes to providing economic programmes, services and projects, addressing insurance problems, resolving the problem of bounced checks, providing vocational training and linking it to the labor market.
One of the most important recommendations
Media Pioneers decided to follow up on the results of this fruitful meeting to prepare an emergency plan in consultation with all organizations in order to adopt concrete steps that contribute to improve the social and economic conditions of Palestinian workers.
